Style Musings | Décor Desires: A Ballerina's Manhattan Paradise

Ballerinas have such grace, calmness and elegance to their bodily movements and personally have always been mesmerized by the dreamy costumes. Today, step inside a ballerina's (and pianist) Manhattan apartment, designed by 25 year old Sasha Bikoff. With travels and years spent in Paris and Miami, and now residing in New York City herself, it is no wonder she was able to inspirit her client's creative life to create a "closet de curiosities."

There is old world luxury drawn from 1970's glamour and 1950's nostalgia and don't you just love the way Bikoff crafted an artfully antique, yet elegantly modern space?

Bikoff's flawless mixing of patterns results is undeniable, as seen in the foyer and master bedroom, covered in hand-painted de Gournay wallpapers.
I am always incorporating foliage and leaves in my spaces because it creates a certain exoticism, as if you are entering another world. - Sasha Bikoff
Speaking of which, am personally captivated by the room above, the regal canopy bed composed with restful lavender makes this so grand!

Style Musings | Décor Desires: Exotic Glamour in Toronto with Jessica Waks

Style Musings | Décor Desires: Exotic Glamour in Toronto with Jessica Waks

It is clear that designer Jessica Waks has a thing for glamour and her newly renovated 1,900 square-foot 1930s Toronto home showcases that one can never have enough of glamour. The eclectic, bold space features jolts of saturated colors and feminine, chinoiserie accents in the form of tufted upholstery, bar carts for pre-dinner cocktails, a wildly admirable lavender mohair chair and ethereal hand-painted Chinese wallpaper.

There's also the grand extended foyer with marble harlequin floor and crystal light fixture, truly setting the mood for the rest of the space...the hand-carved fireplace, vintage crystal sconces, plenty of exotic cat prints, black and white in the form of contemporary prints and striped furniture (some of the designer's favorite decorating elements) and so much more to be mesmerized by such a space...

Style Musings | Décor Desires: Gold & Marble

It has been some time since home design and decor has been featured here, and there are plans to share a glamorously exotic house in Toronto, as well as a tour of a ballerina's New York City apartment, but for today, some inspiration of gilded accents and marble foundations in the most minimalistic of a maximalist's way...

Enter this "bunga-luxe" in Palm Beach, Florida, with an entrance hallway featuring the most provocative statue and gorgeous stair railings, black and white tiles that extend to a foyer where a pair of tables are set against a wallpaper of palm trees.  Originally designed by society architect John Volk in 1935, the estate has received the Ballinger Award for the finest restoration of a landmark property.

There's also that contemporary, rustic fireplace with a quirky photo of a dog set atop the mantle and a game room and an outdoor patio with pillars and a lovely view of the sweeping green lawn and Atlantic Ocean.

Inside the rooms, there's patterned wallpaper and large windows to allow light in and to take a peek at the Atlantic Ocean and best of all, a superb gourmet kitchen with an adjacent morning room facing the ocean, exquisite millwork imported from France and custom designed hardware provided by P.E. Guerin.

Internationality and customization is no secret to this "bunga-luxe," but most importantly, the essence of the tropics lingers in each room, making it perfect for that long awaited getaway in the summer, where the touch of the hot summer sand is rewarded by the cool ocean waters and now, daydreaming of a true Californian summer...

Style Musings | Décor Desires: A Modernized Mid-19th Century Madrid Apartment

Style Musings | Décor Desires: A Modernized Mid-19th Century Madrid Apartment

Space is luxury, that must have been expert interior designer, Luis Puerta's, motto when envisioning the outcome of this Madrid apartment, housed in a mid-nineteenth century building, now full of possibilities for scenic lightness and eloquent empty spaces.

Discovering this bright apartment is comparable to a breathe of fresh spring air as one wanders through the crisp, clean spaces, natural to simplicity.

The look of less has ultimately been achieved through a calculated balance of white space and tonal variations. Ironically, though the use of empty spaces is more than modest here, many textiles, including horsehair, silk velvet, and Belgian linens detail the surrounding items ranging from refined pieces of furniture and fine antiques from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. And yet, there's undeniably a true testimony of utter maximalism, with the mix of timeless pieces and contemporary spacing.

Style Musings | Décor Desires: Mad For Manhattan

Style Musings | Décor Desires: Mad For Manhattan

I am mad for Adrienne Vittadini's, fashion designer, Manhattan apartment! So serene, so calm, this living space, which she bought with her husband and business partner, Gianluigi Vittadini in 1986, is everything an Upper East Side apartment is thought to be. Doses of animal print are seen here and there, in the living room and the bedroom, on paired ottomans and an abundance of art and small sculptures flood the walls and counters of the space.

I have a thing for chandeliers, especially in dining areas, and the one hanging above Vittadini's dining table, with its blue and gold accents, is so charming! On top of the glamour in this sophisticated apartment, it overlooks Central park - oh the glamour, the romance, the true serenity of it all.
